For me, this is a very emotional time and season of the year. It is the season that I wait for with such anticipation that I can hardly think straight. Most photographers that I know look forward to blue skies (how boring!) and all that bright light as well. That is my friends when I would rather spend my time working in the garden waiting for those moody skies and misty days.
Per me questo è un momento e una stagione dell’anno molto emozionante. È la stagione che aspetto con tale ansia che quasi non riesco a pensare lucidamente. La maggior parte dei fotografi che conosco aspettano il cielo azzurro (che orrore e noia!) e tutta quella luce brillante e dura. Questo amici miei è quando preferisco passare il tempo a casa, lavorando in giardino ad aspettare quei cieli nuvolosi e le giornate nebbiose che amo tanto e che fanno una grande parte del mio percorso fotografico.
Photography, whether it is Autumn or Spring and Winter should convey something, particularly in my genre of photography which is grand scenic landscape or the intimate capture of smaller compositions.
La fotografia, che sia autunno o primavera e inverno, dovrebbe trasmettere qualcosa, in particolare nel mio genere di fotografia; il grande paesaggio scenico o la cattura intima di composizioni più piccole.
The smell present in the forest or fields that marks the beginning of this golden season is intoxicating and this is what stimulates me to go out and do some photography. When it has rained and the mist begins to rise in the air, I know that I’ll bring home the shots that I want.
L'odore che è presente in bosco o nei campi che segna l'inizio di questa stagione dorata, è inebriante ed è questo che mi stimola ad uscire e fare qualche fotografia. Quando ha piovuto e la nebbia comincia a salire nell’aria è quando sono certa che porterò a casa gli scatti che desidero.

When I’m out and about scouting for a compo, I like to take my time (slow photography is a term I like to use) and walk around the scene before shooting. It always helps a great deal to look at different perspectives and I sometimes use my cell phone to take a few shots before setting up my tripod. This is when I switch into a deep zone and full concentration takes hold of me.
Quando sono in giro alla ricerca di una composizione, mi prendo tutto il tempo ("fotografia lenta" è un termine che mi piace usare) e mi piace camminare nella location prima di scattare. È sempre di grande aiuto guardare prospettive diverse e talvolta uso il cellulare per scattare qualche foto prima di montare la macchina fotografica sul treppiede. Questo è il momento in cui entro in una zona profonda di concentrazione.
Some of my tips for autumn photography!
Autumn colours can look very different as you move around the scene. I cannot stress enough how important the use of a tripod is, particularly when the shutter speed is fairly slow. I rarely up my ISO, and suggest when using a large zoom such as my Canon EF 100-400mm I always set my timer to 10 secs to avoid micro vibrations.
(micro-vibrations are all too evident when I process photos for other photographers)

I colori autunnali possono apparire molto diversi mentre ti muovi nella scena. Non sottolineerò mai abbastanza quanto sia importante l'uso di un treppiede, soprattutto quando la velocità dell'otturatore è piuttosto lenta. Non alzo quasi mai l' ISO e suggerisco che quando si utilizzo uno zoom grande come il mio Canon 100-400mm imposto sempre il timer su 10 secondi per evitare le micro mosse.

The best time of day to photograph the autumn colours is early in the morning or the evening. The light is softer at these times and can produce deep rich colours, and I avoid midday shooting altogether. I love shooting when it drizzles as wet scenes can be fantastic particularly if there are misty conditions as well, especially when I go out into the woodlands. As forests can be chaotic and full of elements, I find that mist separates the layers of trees and makes finding a good composition much easier.
Il momento migliore della giornata per fotografare i colori autunnali è la mattina presto o la sera. La luce è più morbida in questi orari e può produrre colori profondi e ricchi, quindi evito del tutto di scattare a mezzogiorno. Adoro scattare quando pioviggina perché le scene bagnate possono essere fantastiche soprattutto se ci sono anche condizioni di nebbia, soprattutto quando sono nei boschi. Dato che le foreste possono essere caotiche e piene di elementi, trovo che la nebbia separi gli strati degli alberi e renda molto più facile trovare una buona composizione.

Most of the time I also love to include a foreground element in most of my shots as they give a sense of depth and add interest to the photo. This is another reason to scout the area well before pressing the shutter. Another tip that I cannot stress enough is to go out after a cold evening as there is almost always a chance of fog forming in the morning.
Nella maggior parte dei miei scatti mi piace anche includere elementi in primo piano perché danno un senso di profondità e aggiungono interesse alla foto. Questo è un altro motivo per esplorare bene l'area prima di premere l'otturatore. Un altro consiglio importante è quello di uscire dopo una serata fredda perché al mattino c'è quasi sempre la possibilità che si formi la nebbia.
Finally, during post processing, I almost always use a bit more saturation in the golden colours, almost always some degree of vignetting and the borders around my image are clean from bits and pieces that do nothing for the photo. Enjoy your autumn, it passes so quickly, and develop a style that is your own!
Infine, durante la post-elaborazione, utilizzo quasi sempre un po' più di saturazione nei colori dorati, un certo grado di vignettatura e che i bordi attorno alla mia immagine siano puliti da frammenti che non fanno nulla per la foto. Consiglio a tutti di godere l'autunno, perché passa così in fretta, e di sviluppare uno stile tutto vostro!
